    Rinse them in the nearest stream or splash of water, letting the surface glisten as any hidden cracks quietly reveal themselves before the journey home

    As the stones tumble, they surrender their rough edges, slowly becoming what they were always meant to be—smooth, quiet, and shining with the memory of the earth

    Scratch test: use a nail or glass — if the stone scratches glass, it’s hard enough to tumble.
    Fingernail test: if your fingernail leaves a mark, the rock is too soft.
    Translucence test: hold the stone to the light — agate and chalcedony often glow around the thin edges.
